Proudly Announcing:

Grand Opening

of the

Natchez Outpost

of the

Quapaw Canoe Company

Almost ten years ago I met a guy who was kayaking the length of the Mississippi.  I joined him at Hurricane Point near Rosedale Mississippi for a day of his journey.  As inevitably happens during all long distance expeditions Adam was doing a lot of dreaming and soul-searching.  We kayaked downstream past the mouth of the White River sharing stories about the biggest river in North America.  I encouraged him to return to his home Natchez and start a guiding business with us.  “Hmm…”  in his wizened way, scratching his Don Quixote beard with the end of his kayak paddle.  “I’ll have to think about that…”

Adam Elliott and I became fast friends and over the years we shared a few good river adventures together.   Some of you know him through his longtime leadership in the annual Phatwater: Mississippi River Challenge.  Recently Adam decided to take me up on my long-standing offer, and he is opening up the second outpost of Quapaw Canoe Company.  Quapaw Natchez Outpost.  (Helena, Arkansas being the first).

Adam will offer full-service guiding and outfitting from the high bluffs of Natchez -- featuring any stretch of the big river from Vicksburg down to St. Francisville Louisiana, including storied river roustabouts like Togo, Yucatan, Grand Gulf, Lake Bruin, Vidalia, Fort Adams, Three Rivers, Atchafalaya River, Angola, and the Tunica Hills (co-champion bald cypress).

You can call Adam and arrive with the clothes on your back.  He will take care of the rest of your river needs with canoes or kayaks, and share with you the spectacular beauty of the Lower Mississippi.  As on all of our offerings you will have to paddle.  But paddling is the mantra that opens the imagination and brings you to new sceneries and scenarios in full color invigoration.  It takes you off the sofa and puts you on the front row of one of the world’s natural wonders.

Why Natchez?  Three reasons: (1) the people, (2) the location, and (3) lastly  -- and most importantly --because of Adam!

Please join us at high noon on tax day, April 15th, at Natchez-Under-the-Hill for the ribbon cutting and Grand Opening of Quapaw Canoe Company Natchez Outpost.  Go visit website http://www.island63.com/natchez.cfm for complete description of our offerings in this new location with big river guide and Natchez manager, Adam Elliott.

Many blessings to each and all.  The river guide will survive!

Humbly yours, “Driftwood” John Ruskey.
